Sand Panthers

I am doing something
or I am not doing something
all the time now.
Today the sky is spitting pink raisins,
red shorts, and ruby caps.
How long ago 6 years feels
or 4 or 5, even.
How many years with the BQE outside?
It is nice having something I'm not so sure about.
To dream that you grow fur is uncomfortable.
A stripe of Field Marker Lime
indicates the edge of the field.

Poem

I love the wayfarer summer house.
The way the clay roof tiles click
in the rain is really something.
Now the rain slaps
the windshield of the cab.
Why can't we all be the person
who goes to the airport
without nostalgia gnawing at us?
Simplicity is about movement.
We taste the lipsticks
in the duty free shop.
None have a unified glow,
but this one does.
The clerk carries a taster set.
He carries a yellow stick of it
in his lab coat. "Taste it," he says,
"It's not so bad."
Again, I have to ask:
Why can't I become a personage
on an airship without
thinking about it?
There's a new aspirin, he tells me,
and it has transcontinental strength.

Click Clack

We are too low to be blue,
too amazed by robocalls to be indifferent.
I don't want to be negative here,
but stop talking about your wings.
Leverage your drinkables, it's your future.
Protect your spine with electric paddles.
Ride the brutal bus of grotto.
There's a new aspirant in the streetcar.
They suggested putting a tower
under the doorbell to keep the smelt out.
I am walking over sticky rave-ups.
Brutal busbies of grouch.
No one is looking at us,
but everyone is wondering
about us. They suggested putting
a purple sash in our doorway
to signify someone idle lived here.
They suggested putting a townie
under the doorman to keep
his smile out.
If loyalty is a weakness
then I summon you all to the bivouac
to work out the smirks. I mean really,
all limericks are full of blab
and you are a blabber if you're feeling hyper.
Humidity tugs us from our siesta.
If you are one of the liquidators
then nothing is essential. Pinpoint the flue
with the survival of your chili. Why can't you become
a person who hoards the earth itself?
They suggested putting a tracksuit under the door
to keep the smooch out.

Rookie Strobes

You like the opening, be patient.
Walk with purpose.
Recognize the luxury of doing almost anything
for a lot of hours.
Post your journey, but make it hot.
Stop being mentholated.
Give in to the huge pressure to do something.
Practice the high technology technique.
Nod at people citywide.
Recognize the need for air to breathe.
Know what a robot sees when it sees another robot.
Do you know if there is an advantage
to being among kin? Me neither.
In the future there will only be 15 minutes.
Let loose a civil bellow.
Rain showers, whatever.
Don’t go haywire in your house.
Mute the glow of the street with your shades.
Practice being impossible at all times.

Tart Cherries on Mars

I'd like to understand more about
this century, like how they found
tart cherries on Mars. Or how they
removed a mule from the subway tracks
under the East River yesterday.
Alone, but not bereft, I wash clothes
and put them into tight and neat stacks.
It is always morning somewhere. Windows
flicker with television light.
On this planet we use chairs
to provide relief from gravity.
When water comes out of the spigot
it goes "down" or what we think
of as "down." Just because the sky
is ridiculously blue doesn't mean
there aren't stressful situations
behind the vivid scrim of atmosphere.
We're looking out not up.

A lovely night at Picture Room (on 10.22.15.) featuring a show of my art (half were sold the first night, several are still available). Emily Skillings and Danniel Schoonebeek added to the celebratory vibe of the night by doing a reading along with me. Here's a little documentation...

Before I Forget

I really love the new light I'm seeing you in.
A one way street with beautiful yellow cabs.
I ran to the light for 25 minutes, used Scope
with green mint blast, did breathing exercises,
chopped an onion, whipped three eggs, and poured some ketchup.
I drank the last of the cool coffee in one big gulp
that hurt as it stretched my throat. Classic security
envelopes, Waterman black ink, Diptyque Pomander
spray, and a feeling for autumn. Things become a little
less obvious as we go through life. Consciousness is tied
to work, it does nothing but make us feel wobbly.
